2024 LEADERSHIP AWARD CATEGORY CRITERIA
A person can be nominated under any one of these categories. The nomination should include a detailed description of how the nominee meets the outlined criteria for the selected category. Our aim is to recognize and celebrate those who are creating and advancing change in the fire service community and how those efforts and actions contribute to a more supportive and inclusive fire service that benefits all.

2024 ALLYSHIP AWARD CATEGORY CRITERIA
The Allyship Award is an way to recognize allies in the fire service and it is an opportunity to acknowledge individuals or groups that actively support and advocate for inclusivity, diversity, and equity within the fire service community.
Demonstrated Commitment to Inclusivity:
Evidence of fostering an inclusive environment within the fire service.
Initiatives or programs implemented to promote diversity and representation.
Advocacy for Underrepresented Groups:
Active support for underrepresented groups in the fire service, such as minorities, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and individuals with disabilities.
Involvement in efforts to address and eliminate discrimination and bias.
Education and Training:
Participation in or initiation of training programs that focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Efforts to educate colleagues and the community about the importance of inclusivity in the fire service.
Leadership and Mentorship:
Demonstrated leadership in promoting diversity and allyship.
Mentorship of individuals from underrepresented groups within the fire service.
Collaboration and Partnership:
Collaborative efforts with external organizations or community groups to promote inclusivity.
Partnerships that enhance diversity initiatives within the fire service.
Initiatives Supporting Work-Life Balance:
Advocacy for policies and practices that support work-life balance, recognizing the unique challenges faced by different individuals within the fire service.
Community Engagement:
Involvement in community outreach programs that promote inclusivity and build positive relationships with diverse communities.
Commitment to Continuous Improvement:
Evidence of ongoing efforts to assess and improve inclusivity within the fire service.
Responsiveness to feedback and a commitment to adapting strategies for greater effectiveness.

Demonstrated understanding and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds within the fire service and the communities served.

Evidence of the positive impact of allyship efforts on the overall culture and effectiveness of the fire service.
Nominations must clearly outline how the nominee matches this criteria and how their efforts align with the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our aim is to recognize and celebrate those who actively contribute to a more inclusive fire service environment.
NOMINATIONS ARE DUE IN NO LATER THAN MIDNIGHT FEBRUARY 15, 2024
All nominations will be forwarded to our Awards Selection Committee for review and assessment.
Nominees are not required to attend the FSWBC Symposium 2024 in order to be awarded the honour.
