Youth Programs & Workshops
A summer firefighting mentorship program for female youth in Grades 11 & 12 from across British Columbia.
Camp Ignite has operated for over 13 years and has seen several camp participants go on to career jobs in the fire service. Many of those women report camp as a pivotal moment in their personal development and carry fond memories from their camp experience.
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Youth Outreach Academy is a 5-day program that gives students the opportunity to experience the career training and work practice of a Vancouver Firefighter.
The Youth Academy is meant to be fun but is also a learning experience that will be challenging both mentally and physically. If you have any questions, please contact either your career counsellor at school or the Assistant Chief Community and Administrative Services at the Fire Department.
With the growing popularity of the Camp Ignite Mentorship Program, there was an obvious need to provide similar programs in other regions of the province. Creating an Island Ignite will make the program more accessible to Vancouver Island youth and will allow departments on Vancouver Island to host and support this great program. The program launched their first camp in the Summer of 2023 with resounding success. Details are available on the website.
In an effort to attract a more diverse workforce, the Surrey Fire Service hosts a variety of workshops designed to provide female participants with an overview of the fire service, an opportunity to assess your fitness as well as a chance to practice firefighting skills.
These workshops are held throughout the year giving participants an opportunity to talk with female firefighters and get a unique perspective.
One-day workshops are available for female adults, age 19+.
